Open source hardware

In reading this mornings tech news something caught my eye. This something could be the start of something wide spread if only my dreams may come true. Large electronics kit maker, after advising with adafruit industries, has come to the happy event of releasing some of their kits in an open source hardware project scheme. Essentially this means that dev’s and hackers alike will have access to engineering schematics, eagle files, and source code. This opens up all kinds of possibilities for everyone from your backyard hobbyist to the electrical engineer looking for something fun to do on the weekend.

Wireshark and Firefox release new versions

Two big software releases came down today starting with Wireshark 1.2. They have added a bunch of new features including a 64 bit installer as well as better Mac OS X support. They have also added a number of new protocols as well as filter auto completes. Two of the more interesting features are geoip and open street map lookups. I don’t know about you but I am looking forward to trying this new software out.

The other release today of course was Mozilla’s stable release of Firefox 3.5. Spouting many new features from every orifice and little issues with add-on functionality (none if you install nightly tester tools as I do) it seems to be a great step forward if only some of the skin developers can keep up. I plan to test weave just as soon as possible but as with my last article this is being written from my touch which is helping greatly on my quest of daily contributions. *** this just in after installing the stable version of FF I had to no addons issues whatsoever***. For a full scoop either install it yourself or head over to lifehacker and check the articles comment section that’s where I always fund the little things I have missed.

Image Resize App

Image Resize is now Snow Leopard compatible.

Are you tired of having to fire up Photoshop or any other image manipulation program just to resize a handful of images?
I was, so I decided to program a little application that would allow you to resize images on the fly! If you’ve had this same problem, this program is for you. You can download it for free by clicking download below.
Image Resize supports the most popular image formats. Jpg, Jpeg, PNG, Gif, Bmp, etc. You can also convert file types by changing the file extension when saving your image.

The current version is 1.5  This version is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard  and 10.6 Snow Leopard. The application only weighs about 1 megabyte. Please download it and give it a try!

This program is only available for OS X version 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard. The application might run on 10.4 Tiger on an Intel machine. I have not tested this on PPC or Tiger, so you are on your own.

Image Resize can only resize one image at a time. In the future I plan on allowing it to be able to accept folders and multiple files at once. These features are planned for the future. Please support the development by donating! I will do my best to keep this application updated on a regular basis.

Thanks. – ghostshadow
