How To: Hide Zi8 Record Light

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Nothing is more aggravating than recording a video and then finding out later that your video is ruined due to an overly bright recording light. With the Kodak Zi8 pocket HD camera, this problem seems to happen quite often.  You cannot record in low light or record any glossy type surfaces due to the record light being so bright. All of the videos have a red tint or a red dot right in the center of them.

Fed up with the red cast and red dots in my videos, I decided to do something about it. I was going to put tape over the light but then I realized, tape would eventually come off and then it’d leave a sticky residue on the camera. So the next best thing to do was to paint the darn thing! I didn’t want to paint the outside because I figured it’d be more work than what it is and it’d also take away from the over all appearance of the device.  I found out you can remove the lens cover and gain access to the light post from within the lens cover.

Quick Tip: Remove Firefox 3 New Tab Button

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Nothing annoys me more than having new features added to applications and not having the ability to optionally control said “feature”. In my opinion Firefox 3 is guilty of this.  I do not enjoy the new tab button that is placed next to the browser tabs in Firefox 3.  There is no good way to disable the button from the preferences or even through the about:config panel.

There is however a simple plugin that allows you to disable the new tab button with ease.

Television Drama

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Today I want to start a new editorial type post. I am not guaranteeing any updates at any time intervals and I am not guaranteeing that this will make it any further than the first post. I just finished catching up on season six of House, and once again I am absolutely floored and blown away. I have to applaud the acting especially on the part of Hugh Laurie, also must applaud the writers of this series. My humble opinion is that this could quite possibly be the best drama series running on broadcast television, and is of a better quality of what I have been able to watch via an over the air antenna in the past.

Let me preface this all by saying I find myself drawn to cult low budget films and series quite often even if their episodes turn into cookie cutter dramas where the proponents and issues faced are the only difference in a monotonous plot of repetitive oh no what will we do drama, Jericho anyone? Don’t get me wrong I loved the series Jericho but we all must face facts that every episode had the same monotonous plain as the nose on my face plot. House has the same basic monotonous plot as far as patients go and a variability of the things that may happen, however the underlying more dramatic plot that bolsters the series. Also an interesting new drama that I caught just bits and pieces of that atleast piqued my interest a bit is Trauma. I caught just enough that I want to watch it again, but not enough to analyze the acting or the content.

We’re Back!!!

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Your eyes are not deceiving you. The post title is correct! We are back! One year later and just in time for the holidays. I am sure you will notice things are much different. We hope you enjoy the new site, allot of time and work has gone into getting the site up and running again. There are some minor changes that need to be made throughout the site, most everything is minor, so it can be changed as we go along.

I guess I should give everyone a rundown of what’s been going on and why it’s taken so long for the site to come back to life from it’s rough journey through cyber hell.

1) Previous host screwed us over big time. We used to be hosted by VizaWeb. They are crooks and I do not want to plug their name, but I think you all should know about them and their crooked ways of doing business. Back in August / September of 07 we decided it was time to switch hosts because we had constant issues with VizaWeb. There were times where the servers would go offline multiple times per day without any notice or warning. Service was slow, they capped our bandwidth due to high traffic flow even though we were paying for a big pipeline. This caused the sites that we host to run extra slow. I cannot tell you how many e-mails I have received from loyal readers telling us when the server was down and how slow it was. The poor performance definitely had an impact on our readers. (more…)

Linux Directory Layouts

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

After the installation of Linux, generally 13 directories are made. Unlike Windows, these directories begin with a forward slash / (in Windows they begin C:\). I highly recommend you print this page out as it is very helpful to beginners. The directories and their uses are as follows:
